We Are ASB

At ASB School, we strive to develop future leaders who are Inspired to Learn, Called to Serve, and Prepared to Lead.  For more than 70 years, we have helped shape students throughout their journey of academic, spiritual, and personal growth.

Inspired to Learn

Since 1947, we have strived to effectively teach the whole child through seeing each student as a unique individual with particular learning strengths, needs and preferences, as well as a powerful personal history. Our goal is to create life-long learners with a broad worldview, and the confidence to be leaders and role models of Catholic teaching. We is committed to continuous development of the best educational practices.  Executing programs in literacy support, executive functioning skill improvement, social and emotional growth, and enrichment courses serve as the foundation for each student.

Called to Serve

We partner with parents to provide an excellent education rooted in Catholic values and social justice teachings. Serving as the Catholic parish school for Assumption and St. Bridget parishes, our commitment to service is a defining feature of our culture. The ASB community supports the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry each month by collecting donations.  As part of our community outreach, students volunteer at our neighboring Ida Culver to build relationships with the elderly residents.  Middle school students participate in a three year Missionary Discipleship program in which classroom learning is applied through action that addresses an authentic community need and provides structured time for reflection on the service experience and demonstration of acquired skills and knowledge.

Prepared to Lead

We are committed to provide opportunities in which students can experience challenge, support, and success in their present lives. These experiences help build the moral, social, and personal skills for productive living and leadership as adults. Students are encouraged to become self-directed learners, effective and articulate communicators, ethical thinkers, and graduate with solid self-advocacy skills.  ASB alumni have been named Valedictorians and Salutatorians and have been honored for Academic Achievement at several of Seattle’s top high schools, and also shine as leaders on their sports teams, in their colleges and universities, and beyond.

Our mission is to proclaim the Good News of Jesus through the education of children in the Catholic tradition while maintaining high educational standards, building a faith community, developing ethical and moral thinking, providing service to the entire community, and addressing the ways in which children learn.  This is done through the emphasis of STREAM education.  STREAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, the Arts, and Math.

The STREAM structure explains how all the divisions of education and life work together. Subjects are coordinated to support each other under an instructional framework that highlights how science, technology, engineering, mathematics, the broad spectrum of religion, and the arts all connect in the real world.  This framework reinforces the centrality of our Catholic identity to every aspect of the school program.  STREAM allows students to use their academic talents through project-based learning with access to various tools and resources that encourage critical thinking and problem solving.
In 1947, our school’s doors opened and the Dominican Sisters led the charge in building our Catholic identity, academic excellence, and the value of community. Over seventy years later, we are fortunate to be able to uphold and strengthen those foundations.
ASB is a two-parish school, serving the communities of both Assumption and St. Bridget parishes. Our school families come from many areas of Seattle, each bringing unique gifts and experiences that strengthen our community.
