LRS Interview Instructions

Before the Interview: Your child should write at least 10 questions to ask at the interview. When writing your questions, remember to ask questions your expert can answer that would probably not be in a book. See the list we came up with in class about electricity for examples. The last question should be: Is there anything important about this topic that you think I should know? These questions will need to be turned in by November 30.

Arrange for Interview: Between now and January 3, 2006.

During the Interview: I strongly recommend that the interview be audio or video taped so your child can use it as a reference for facts. Writing the answers to the questions is too difficult a task for third graders. This does not apply to students who conduct an internet interview as they will have a hard copy of the questions and answers.

After the Interview Complete the interview completion sheet and return it to school by January 3. Save the information you gathered from your interview.

Questions for an Electrician

§ How long have you been an electrician?

§ What is the hardest part of your job?

§ What inspired you to become an electrician?

§ What jobs do you like to do with electricity?

§ Do you know anyone who has been shocked by electricity?

§ What is your favorite part of your job?

§ What do you think is the best source of energy for people to use?

Remember it is ok to ask some factual questions that you haven’t found the answers to yet. Another idea is to ask the expert’s opinion about something you have learned. Be sure to have some questions that your expert can answer that would not be answered in a book.
