Dear First Grade Families,

What a beautiful and busy week we have had.  Just think it was only 4 days, and we filled every day.  The trip to the Center for Wooden boats was a huge success.  The weather was perfect, and the first graders flexed their arm muscles while they paddled the parents and teachers around south Lake Union.  We paddled as seaplanes were taking off, and 1A even got pulled over by the police boat!  We must have been going too fast!

Thank you to all of the parents who came to the Center for Wooden Boats with us: Mrs. Brooks, Mrs. DiMartino, Mrs. Heffernan, Mrs. Hollomon, Mrs.Laboda, Mrs. Negri, Mr. Newland, Mrs. Aguirre, Mrs. Custer, Mr. Cook, Mrs. Enquist, Mrs. Harrington, Mrs. Ludden (she had so much fun on Wednesday with 1B that she went again on Thursday), Mr. Lynch, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Shelton, Mrs. Somers, and Mrs. Yerkes.

This morning we raced our milk carton paddle boats. Let it be said that all boats were sea worthy – some more than others.  Some moved with ease, while some were quite stylish!  Most importantly, a good time was had by all!

This afternoon, we joined with the school community to send our eighth graders off in style. Each class presented the graduates with a going away gift.  Just think in 7 more years your children will be the graduates!

The Reading Rodeo is coming!  The festivities will begin Friday, June 5th at 12:30 in your student’s classroom. Are you ready for an afternoon of reading, singing, and dancing?  Many parents have asked if we are really square dancing.  The answer is YES!  Your first grader will teach you the dances at the Rodeo. We will end our celebration with some mighty tasty treats – made the first grade way.  This is a free dress day for the first graders.  So dust off your dancing shoes and don your rodeo gear!  Ki-yip-ee-ai!

Have a wonderful weekend!
